Gawler Surgical Specialists was established in 2018 with an aim to provide a comprehensive range of specialist surgical services to community of Gawler and adjoining regions.

Our goal is to offer quality, reliable and ethical medical specialist services for people of this region as close as possible to their residence.

Currently, our team comprises of two surgeons (Dr. Shekhar Sharma & Dr. Nainoor Thakore) along with support staff (Mrs. Trish Fleming, Mrs. Verity Stevens & Ms. Lesley Main). 

Our team is here to help you get the right care in the right place at the right time. The more information you can provide our staff, the easier it will be for us to help you. All information provided to us is confidential.

DOCTORS:

Both Shekhar and Nainoor have been trained as general surgeons and endorsed by Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Following initial training as general surgeons, both gained further experience in separate sub-specialties as areas of interest, while maintaining skills as general surgeons. Shekhar pursued Colorectal Surgery (surgery for diseases of colon, rectum, anus and related issues) while Nainoor pursued Breast & Endocrine Surgery (surgery for diseases of breast & endocrine organs like thyroid, para-thyroid and adrenal glands). In addition to providing services in their area of interest, both surgeons offer a wide range of general surgical services.

They participate in continuing medical education, as endorsed by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and operate according to AMA Code of Ethics.

STAFF:

Trish has had training as a registered nurse before changing career as secretary. With her extensive experience spanning almost two decades, she runs a tight ship.

Verityt provides effective secretarial support and has a long track record of experience in many different clinics working in various roles.

Lesley has extensive experience of the service industry and has worked in Centerlink as well as a nurse before joining us and helps us out when needed.

Fees & Billing

We aim to keep our services reasonably priced. Government has not revised the Medicare rebate (other than indexing it to a government nominated percentage basis) available to you for our services for some time now (and does not intend to do it in the near future either!). Due to this, there is an out of pocket expense to you for the consultation service. 

Please be aware that we do not issue accounts. Please call us for exact fee amounts and out of pocket expense. If you have any difficulty in paying our fees, please discuss this with us prior to consultation. Any unpaid accounts will be referred to Debt Recovery Agencies and the fees added to your account as well as being reported to appropriate credit reporting agencies.

Full fees are due and payable at the time of consultation by cash, EFTPOS or credit card. Our online claiming services allow for the Medicare rebate to be credited back to your bank account, usually within 24-48 hours, often immediately. You either need to have registered your bank details with Medicare or have a debit card to received immediate refund). Alternatively, we will provide you with a receipt which you can lodge with Medicare to seek the rebate refund. Please speak to our reception staff when you are with us and we will be able to explain the details.

Concession & pension card holders are eligible for concessional rates. You must present a valid card in your name to reception, for this to apply (we do not accept Senior’s Health Care Cards as valid cards for concessional rates).

Workcover and Motor Vehicle Accident accounts are ultimately the patient’s responsibility. Please ensure your WorkCover claim is submitted, notify us of your claim number and bring the approved & signed procedure letter back to us at least 5 working days prior to scheduled procedure. For Motor Vehicle Accident claims, please identify and advise us of your Compulsory Third Party insurer as soon as possible – details on how to find your insurer can be found at http://www.ctp.sa.gov.au/insurers
